Not all tours have a high quality rated show, so yet another reason is because it may be the highest quality rated show for that particular tour.

This CD has 3 bonus tracks from "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" on 10-9-74, that I rate SB VG+.

This is the ONLY 100% guaranteed COS date known to exist on audio tape, CD, CD-R, LP, DAT, DVD or MP3. Rumor has it that only a handfull of actual shows from this tour were recorded. It has the complete song, "The Necromancer". This was the ONLY tour the boys ever played this song in it's entirety, live. This tour only covered 40 dates. The instruments come thru pretty good, but Geddy's vocals are muffled, yet are still understandable. Unfortunately there is distortion from being recorded too high, otherwise it would have received a VG.

This version of this date, like most of the others, contains fill in parts. In this case there are 2 SB bonus tracks from an unknown date placed at the end. I wasn't listening really hard for the fill in part transitions, but the one spot I did notice besides the 2 bonus tracks was on CD1, track 10, "Hemispheres", between 10:00 & 11:10. My copy during the intro has a couple of double clicks right before 00:30, and another couple of single clicks around 00:40, in which one is a minor skip.

CD1, track 5, 11:15 to track 6, "Something For Nothing", 00:08, the volume in the right channel is greatly reduced. CD1, track 11, "Circumstances", 00:11, some of the song is missing, but there isn't a gap. CD2, track 4, "2112 (Spliced)", 4:46, some of the song is missing, but there isn't a gap. (Master)

CD1, track 7, from 6:51 - 6:52, there is a blank spot with it going into this spot with a scratchy noise. This may have been the taper accidentally turning off the recorder. Then on CD2, track 1, there is about 30 seconds of edited out music shortly after Geddy anounces the song. These problems may exist on "Tour Of The Semispheres" and "Tour Of The Semispheres - Platinum Edition", but right now I don't have the time to compare them.

Track 3 sounds like it might be from a different show. The quality drops as well. These shows have a done live that night pre-release version of "Limelight", with Geddy having different vocal characteristics, and fluctuations. "Tom Sawyer" is another pre-release live song, and is definitely a different sounding version. Geddy ad-libed some of the words as if they hadn't been fully worked out at this point. Alex's lead is also not fully worked out, yet is a killer one. Sadly, "Hyperspace" is missing "The Spirit Of The Radio". The audience is really dead, but the band played with great enthusiasm. "Hyperspace" is definitely better in sound quality, plus the speed has been slightly corrected.

As with most boot shows, it has flaws. There are a few rough spots due to the tape source, including some edited spots, but nothing bad. This show was recorded too high, with the worst spot for this on CD1, track 10. The taper dropped the microphone(s) a few seconds after track 2, on CD1 starts. I would give this show a high EX-.

In audio CD format, this is a 2CD show. This show was recorded too high. There is a cut in "Subdivisions", which is also a pre-release live song. The source of this show has long been debated, but I now fully believe this is an AD recording. If you check out CD1, track 4, 2:03, we hear someone yell "sit down asshole", and a few other words. This lasts for about 20 seconds until we hear a cheer for what is more than likely the person sitting down.

The "RTA Edition" is the best choice! For 2 comments about what an "RTA Machine" is, how it was used here, and even a link to a picture of one, please click HERE. There is a medium volumed scratchy/clicking type of noise that begins on CD2, track 11, "In The Mood", to the end of track 12, "YYZ/Drum Solo", which is also the end of the CD and show. This noise gets worse half way through the drum solo. Since my copy is from the person that created this version, this does exist on the Master CD-R's.

My copy seems to have been retracked and reindexed if I go by the inserts. But if I go by the fact that everything fits perfectly with no click at track change, then the track list on the back insert is incorrect. The last 2 tracks from CD1 on the inserts are the first 2 tracks on the CD2 I have. I did a test burn and found that the possibly rearranged songs do blend and flow perfectly right thru to the next track as if it was originally mastered this way.

The date on the inserts are incorrect. They say 2-25-88. On this CD, Geddy says "Thank you very much....Goodnight" and right after that the beginning of the next track starts by means of editing out the audience cheering to bring the boys back out for an encore. Where as with the show "Extreme Exult" from 2-25-88, Geddy says "Thank you, thank you very much....Goodnight" and leaves the stage awaiting the call back out for the encore. Upon further checking I have found that this was taken from the show called "A Desperate Voice". This version is better though.

"Garden Road" (GR) is almost a complete show. Only about the first 10 seconds of track 1, "Force Ten", is missing, but the song still seems to be complete. "Big Money Meets The Big Apple" (BMMTBA) is a "Watch Tower" release, so the encore is missing, but does have the intro as well as the last little bit of the song that was playing on the sound system prior to the boys coming out to perform. "GR" has more of a punch, yet isn't as clear as "BMMTBA". "BMMTBA" has better seperation of the instruments which gives it a richer, fuller sound and gets my vote for the better sound quality.

The way this show was released was that CD1 contains the AD part, and CD2 has the SB part. This makes CD2, 80:21 long. Because of the length of CD2, some CD players may not be able to read the CD-R I would have to burn. Putting all 80:21 onto 1CD-R would require that I do what is called an "overburn", and I would not do that to you. What I think is best is that I place the first 3 tracks from the SB part of the show onto CD1. Of course, I would do this without any editing or anything else so that the SB parts could be put back together without any hassle or loss of one bit of information. By breaking up CD2, you will be able to get this show on 2CD-R's still. Otherwise it will require a 3rd CD-R. How the tracks are broken up is up to you.

Right after the beginning of the show there are several loud cracks for a few seconds, of which I do not believe are from firecrackers. The next couple of minutes are rough as the taper is adjusting the settings. There is only one song in which the crowd's understandable need to whoo hoo is too much for me. With the other times it just adds to the feel of actually being there. Overall it isn't done that much, nor for long any time other than the one.

TAPER'S NOTES:
"(26th row, Ged's side) The hall sound of this night was INCREDIBLE. Almost no sound circulation and all sounds' edge were really sharp. And we traveled Japan>Montreal>Quebec City>Toronto only in 5 days, the tire reached to the top, so not only we did not sing but also did not scream. And the Toronto audience is VERY quiet during the boys are playing. Consequently, the recording made excellent, still a bit instable in volume during the first several songs and does not have almost of Three Stooges Intro, though. Then, on the top 1st disc has pre-show announcement by the radio DJ in Toronto (not complete)." (DAT Master)
