1CD X ?? G

This CD is suppose to be outtakes, but I truly believe that someone attempted to make a home made karioke CD. The reason is because the instruments come thru great, where as Geddy's vocals come thru distant a good chunk of the time and beautifully only some of the time. Tracks 1-7 are from "Power Windows". Tracks 8 & 9 are from "Moving Pictures". Tracks 10 & 11 are live in the USA in 1976. The last 2 tracks are rumored to be a straight copy off of "All The World's A Stage". I haven't checked it out for myself yet.

I VERY rarely use reviews by others, but in this case, I feel it is important. These reviews I grabbed from DRE, and do not know the people in order to contact them to get their permission to use either of these.

Russ Schomber
"Although I do not own the exact CD of these purported out takes, I have a tape copy. You too can make you own out-takes of any artist just like this prankster did! Simply slide the RCA phono plugs out of your CD player until just the center tip conductors touch. You will get a healthy 100Hz buzz but what you will be left with is the mono tracks from the mix. Anything that was panned left or right is lost. Filter out the hum with an EQ and there you go, demo's! Some systems which have built in karaoke microphone systems can also reproduce the same effect without the buzz (my Panasonic mini-system does this) It's an interesting listen but it's not real."

Doug Palmer
"Just FYI, This is called mix-minus. I've done this for years to learn the guitar parts. It's basically an electronic process of combining the left channel out of phase with the right. Any signal that is centered is cancelled out - or removed. That includes bass, kick and snare, and lead vocals. It's an interesting way to hear a new version of our old favorites, and to discover some parts that are usually buried in the mix. Most digital editing programs allow you to do this. It's also known as a vocal eliminator. It's worth the time to get a new perspective."

12-4-85   First Power

2CD AD VG+

These shows are both from the opening night of the Tour. "First Power" is the better of the two.

New Haven Coliseum, New Haven, Connecticut
12-7-85  No Title

2CD NI AD VG

There is a half second gap without music on CD1, track 9, at 2:34. Then same CD, and track which is "Closer To The Heart", is cut short by about 30 seconds. The show ends about 30 seconds before the end of "Drum Solo/Red Lenses".

      Hartford Civic Center, Hartford, Connecticut
12-8-85    Different Degrees

2CD AD VG+

War Memorial Coliseum, Rochester, New York
12-10-85      Paz's Attic Release #7

2CD X AD VG-

This show was recorded way too high, thus we get a fuzzy sound. There are tape problems every so often throughout. This show may deserve a G, but since Alex's guitar is rather clear and undistorted, I gave it a VG-.

      Centrum in Worcester, Worcester, Massachusetts
12-12-85      Le Gran De Tuning

2CD (UI) AD VG

Several tracks have parts missing. CD2, track 2, "Mystic Rhythms", for about half the song, and from track 7 on the same CD, there is a continual wah-wah effect on the bottom end of the cymbals, that is very hard to listen to. I rate those parts G.

      Richmond Coliseum, Richmond, Virginia
12-15-85        Super Power   (Part 1 of 2)

2CD AD VG+

This show was recorded too high, thus giving us compressed distortion some of the time. CD1, track 9, at 1:56 & 2:56, there are small edits, and the tape munch is most noticable. There are a few sound changes throughout. This is a 4 Date/2CD set. I will break up the set if you would like.

Capital Centre (Cap Centre/The Cap), Largo/Landover, Maryland
12-16-85       Remote Control

2CD (SHN) AD VG+

In audio CD format, this is a 2CD show. This show was recorded a little too high. This is noticeable when the decibles of the music are up high, otherwise it would have received an EX-.

12-16-85         Super Power   (Part 2 of 2)

2CD AD VG+

These 2 shows for this date are too close to say which is the better version. This is a 4 Date/2CD set. I will break up the set if you would like.

      Richfield Coliseum, Richfield, Ohio
12-19-85           Paz's Attic Release #1

1-12-86      Live In Dallas RM

2CD X AD VG+

This show is from a different source than "1-12-86 Dallas Project". This is the Remastered version of "Live In Dallas", which was transferred to CD via a stand alone CD burner from 1st gen tapes. There is a 40:17 long Geddy Lee Interview recorded from the radio on 1-13-86 from Q102 with "Red Beard". The songs off the radio interview for some reason are a liitle fast. The Interview was after the 2 shows were finished in Dallas. (Raw Transfer)

1-12-86            Dallas Project   (Part 1 of 2)

2CD X AD VG

This show has some slight clipping, but it is pretty tolerable to me. As you can see, this title is a 2 Date/4CD set. I will break up the set if you would like.

      Reunion Arena, Dallas, Texas
1-13-86            Dallas Project   (Part 2 of 2)

2CD X AD G

This show has clipping also. CD2, track 3, has a couple of spots of digi noise. As you can see, this title is a 2 Date/4CD set. I will break up the set if you would like.

      The Summit, Houston, Texas
1-16-86  No Title

2CD NI AD VG-

This show plays a little fast and was recorded too high. Because of this the sound, what we get is fuzzy and compressed. CD1, track 6, 00:23, there is a major skip forward in the music. Shortly after CD1, track 13, "The Trees" starts, there is a skip forward in the music. A handful of tracks are cut short. CD2, track 5, I don't think needs to be here, but that is the way I got it. The extra track is only about a minute long, and is cheering only, where as the next song should have started when this track started as far as I can tell without editing out this track, and splicing the tracks before and after it together.

San Diego Sports Arena, San Diego, California
2-3-86   Power Surge

2CD AD VG+

CD1, track 9, from 00:15 - 00:19, the volume is messed with, and increases a decent bit. Then from 1:03 - 1:05, the music is faded out and back in. CD1, track 12, at 3:04, there is a quick zap/skip noise that lasts for a fraction of a second. The power goes out at 4:10, on CD1, track 12, "Marathon". They play this song from the beginning once power is restored. CD2, track 2, "Mystic Rhythms", at 4:44, there is a radical sound quality change in which the low end is now being recorded way too high. My guess is that a switch was hit. This ends on track 3, at 6:50. The power goes out one more time during CD2, track 3, "Distant Early Warning", at 5:58, but this time they don't replay the song. There are spots mostly toward the end of the show where the microphone(s) either are blocked, or the recording volume on the audio cassette recorder is turned down.

2-3-86        Feeding On The Fires

2CD AD VG+

This version of this date is the best one. There is occasional phasing, but it's not bad, nor does it last long. CD1, track 11, "Marathon", is the first of 2 times a song is cut short due to a power failure. This time the song happens to be very close to the end. The booing of the distant crowd actually make it sound like there was a keyboard phasing out the song. They play this song from the beginning once power is restored. CD2, track 4, "Mystic Rhythms", is cut short due to the second power failure. This time it ends closer to the middle, but they don't replay the song.

Civic Centre Arena, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
3-1-86                    Dip Into - Live Ottawa

2CD X AD CD1/VG, CD2/G

There are some spots where there is speaker clipping on the bass. Part way thru "2112", the show just fades out and ends. CD2 has all kinds of clipping.

2CD AD EX-

3-3-86         Wild Kenetic Dreams

2CD AD EX-

The beginning is rough with phasing and talking. This show is a longer version by 11 minutes, and is from a 2nd source. The final 2 minutes of the show, the left channel cuts in and out alot. There is no doubt that quality wise, "Wild Kenetic Dreams" is the better of the two!!!

2CD AD VG+

Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
3-7-86            By-Toronto Mystic Gardens

CD1, track 3, "Limelight", has a noise that sounds alot like when the high end is too high for the symbals, but shows up for Geddy's vocals. CD1, track 8, there are 2 digital clicks at approximately 1:30.

      Rosemont Horizon, Rosemont, Illinois

2CD AD VG+

Although I have this rated at VG+, it barely makes it.

Brendon Byrne Arena (Meadowlands Arena), East Rutherford, New Jersey
3-31-86               Twin Meadows   (Part 1 of 2)

2CD (UI) AD VG

This is a low VG. There are 2 songs with small parts missing, possibly due to a tape flip. This is a 2 Date/4CD set. I will break up the set if you would like.

Brendon Byrne Arena (Meadowlands Arena), East Rutherford, New Jersey
4-1-86                  Twin Meadows   (Part 2 of 2)

2CD (UI) AD VG+

The end of track 2 on CD2, has about 90 seconds missing from the song itself. This CD contains 6 bonus tracks from the Thomas & Mack Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada on 2-2-86, and I rate them AD VG+ also. I rate the main show a high VG+. This is a 2 Date/4CD set. I will break up the set if you would like.

      Civic Center, Springfield, Massachusetts
4-3-86   No Title

2CD NI AD VG+

Nassau County Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Long Island/Uniondale, New York
4-4-86       A Pane In The Glass

2CD AD VG

There are small pops throughout every so often. CD2, track 6, the "Drum Solo" is edited. CD2, track 8, "Freewill" has a couple of tape source munches. There are also a couple of small edits that occur during "Freewill" around 1:50. There is the bonus track, "Battlescar" from "Max Webster" that Geddy did with them in July of 1986.

2CD SB EX

4-16-86 Mystic Dreams

1CD X SB EX+

4-16-86      Philadelphia Project

2CD X SB EX+

The encore is missing. In this case the drum solo has been cut short as well. Great sounding show though!

4-16-86             Visions & Illusions - Version 2.01

2CD SB EX

If there was more bottom end, this show may have made it into the EX+ range. Sadly this show ends 5:36 into the "Drum Solo". This version has had the speed corrected compared to the non "Version 2.01".

Baltimore Civic Center *OR* Baltimore Arena, Baltimore, Maryland
4-17-86    Maryland `86

2CD X AD VG+

      Hampton Coliseum, Hamton, Virginia
4-19-86                    Brought To You By The Letter Rush0212

2CD X AD VG

CD1, track 9, is faded out about a minute early. This show was recorded too high, but only CD2, track 1, is where I would say it is that noticeable.

      Kemper Arena, Kansas City, Missouri
4-29-86  Kansas City

2CD NI AD VG+

I gave this show a VG+, but this may be a little generous after CD1, track 4, around 2:30. The show after this point is recorded too high. Track 4 itself has a fuzzy buzzing sound, where as the rest of the show has a compressed bass sound due to the recording level.

      Myriad Arena, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
5-1-86             The Power And The Glory

2CD AD VG+

This show is a high VG+.

Salt Palace Convention Center, Salt Lake City, Utah
5-12-86   Different Circles

2CD AD VG

      Seattle Center Coliseum, Seattle, Washington
5-21-86   Feel The Powers

2CD AD VG

This show is a high VG. CD1, track 9, "Closer To The Heart", from 1:21 - 1:33, the microphone(s) are dropped, but never hit the ground or a chair, so there isn't any sudden noise through the speakers. CD2, track 8, "Tom Sawyer", there must have been a tape flip, because a small part is missing.

      CAL Expo Amphitheatre, Sacramento, California
5-24-86          Glory Rolls On By

2CD (SHN) X AD VG+

In audio CD format, this is a 2CD show.

      Pacific Amphitheatre, Costa Mesa, California
5-26-86  Run Short

2CD X AD VG-

This show could have been a VG+ if it wasn't for the clipping. There is a bonus Interview of Geddy talking about "Progressive Rock" from a show called "Rock Chronicles" done in 1986. This is also the final night of the tour.
