As you can see, this show is an original, and after receiving it, I learned that it never came with a Front insert, so of course I cannot offer you one. As you may or may not be aware, this is the first night Neil played live with the band. It's only 26:38 long though. In the middle of "Working Man" (which is the last track) the sound becomes really distant, as if the taper had placed the microphone(s) in their pocket. The quality for this part is still VG-.

The "RTA Edition" version is the better choice! For a comment about what "RTA" is, how it was used here, and even a link to a picture of an "RTA Machine", please click HERE . 3:32 minutes into track 4, "Working Man", the sound changes to the end of track 5, which is the "Drum Solo" and the end of the CD. I rate just this part VG-. There are a couple dozen one channel only pops throughout. These are not present on "First Time", but since my copy of the "RTA Edition" version came from the person that remastered it, they do belong.

This show was taken directly from the Master tapes and remastered onto CD at a professional studio, then played by WMMS Radio, Cleveland, Ohio. Then recorded off the airwaves and remastered onto CD-R. I expected an EX+ out of this, but it's still of high quality. This is also the first time it has been the complete show. This version also includes another "RUSH" original song called "Garden Road", which was more than likely not heard until the rebroadcast of this concert. This song was written in 1970 with "John Rutsey" on drums. This CD has 2 bonus tracks from ABC's "In Concert" on 12-16-74, that I rate SB VG+.

In audio CD format, this is a 1CD show. If you only want one show from this tour, this is it!!! Everything is crisp and clear. The sound produced for the "Drum Solo" is increadable with the bounceback of the stereo seperation. This is the best version of this date that I have.

This show has something really interesting happen. It has Geddy announcing a song by saying "We'd like to do a song that will probably be on our next album. This is a number called, 'Fancy Dancer' ". During the drum solo on "Working Man", the sound becomes really muddy until the next track. The CD starts off very rough. It sounds like the tape used for this show was well worn out at the beginning, and a couple more times later on. These next couple of times aren't as long as the first.

It is a couple of generations old, thus a lower quality rating. Tracks 8 & 9, are from 12-6-74 ABC's "In Concert". Tracks 8-12, I rate SB VG+.

This show is from "ABC's In Concert Series", and is 2 tracks that is 7:15 long total. If you are looking for this show, I have them on 2 other titles. They are on "New In Town - Platinum Edition" and "Rushian Whiskey 74". IMO, these songs are a direct copy from "New In Town - Platinum Edition". The sound quality, track times, volume and even the slightly mastered too high causing a very slight clipping are identical. As to which version of these 2 songs sounds better of the 3 versions, that is a tough call. "Rushian Whiskey 74" is a little less bright, but I prefer "New In Town - Platinum Edition" or "ABC Studios".

"Fly By Toronto" in audio CD format, is a 1CD show. All of these shows start out rough, and the right channel cuts out for a few seconds at the very beginning. As for which is the best version of this date, that is tough to say. "Fly By Toronto" has better mid-range, but is lacking in the bass frequencies. I feel that "The Age Of Wonders" is slightly better than "In The Beginning", with "Live Anthem 1975" coming in 4th.

This is the ONLY 100% guaranteed COS date known to exist on audio tape, CD, CD-R, LP, DAT, DVD, DVD+-R or MP3. Rumor has it that only a handfull of actual shows from this tour that were recorded. It has the complete song, "The Necromancer". This was the ONLY tour the boys ever played this song in it's entirety, live. This tour only covered 59 dates. The instruments come thru pretty good, but Geddy's vocals are muffled, yet are still understandable. Unfortunately, there is distortion from being recorded too high, otherwise it would have received a VG.

In audio CD format, this is a 1CD show. My recommendation is for "Steel Breeze". It is crisper, but with less bass. The instruments are seperated better, and is more up front. Unfortunately there is distortion from being recorded too high. If it wasn't for that, "Steel Breeze" would barely get VG+, and "Stainless Steel" would have received VG.

I rate "The Another World A Stage" EX, and "Tuning Man" a high VG+. My choice for best the version of the 5-30-76 date is "Tuning Man". The reason for this is because it is is brighter, as well as the the drums are more up front in the mix compared to "We Are The Priests". This is a 2 Date/2CD set. There is phasing, old tape wear and tape munch starting with track 7 mostly. This isn't constant, but it is noticeable. Track 4, "Xanadu" is cut short by about 2:40 at 7:42. Track 8 around 1:35, there is about 12 seconds of tape munch. This by far is the worst spot for tape munch. Track 16, "2112: Grand Finale", is from an SB recording, and until I have time to check, my hunch is that it's from the "All The World's A Stage" release. Hard to say if it's from the LP, CD or possibly the audio cassette tape.

Right around 1 minutes worth of CD1, track 4, "Xanadu", is missing. There is a live version of "Cinderella Man" at the end of this show. Even though I cannot prove it, and since they didn't play this song on this tour, I believe it to be a bonus track. The other reasons why are that this song was taken from an LP at some point. There is a difference in sound quality in the crispness for the treble, with the cheering being the most noticeable. The people cheering are different than the rest of songs.

This is the second half of the show. There is a low volumed thumping noise throughout most of the show. This thumping noise is most prevalant during the song breaks. IMO, Geddy's vocals are a little too up front in the mix, but still worthy of my rating.

The first couple of minutes are rough. CD1, track 1, there is a small amount of the song missing at 1:16, but there isn't any gap. "Waterproof" at this spot has a double missing gap between 1:24 & 1:26. My guess is that someone took out the gaps and the tiny amount of music between them, and thus we get a small break in the music flow. There is alot of tape hiss, but this is still my choice for the best version of this date.

I am unsure if the inserts I have were released or approved for this show by the person that mastered it, but IMO these were released with the show.

This version of this date, like most of the others, contains fill in parts. In this case there are 2 SB bonus tracks from an unknown date placed at the end. I wasn't listening really hard for the fill in part transitions, but the one spot I did notice besides the 2 bonus tracks was on CD1, track 10, "Hemispheres", between 10:00 & 11:10. My copy during the intro has a couple of double clicks right before 00:30, and another couple of single clicks around 00:40, in which one is a minor skip.

Both of these versions have tape fluctuation for just over half the show, making it extremely difficult to listen to. The problem continues up until the 16 minute mark on "Cygnus X-1, Book II, Hemispheres". After that the sound does improve to EX. The "Oak Oppression" version however does have 2 spots which are not on "Buenos Nochas! Motor City", and those would be, CD1, a 3 second area of silence right after track change, but not a 2 second gap. CD2, there is a spot at the track change of 4 & 5 that is just weird, but way less than a second long. I would get "Buenos Nochas! Motor City" myself.

For "Fallen Trees - Version 2.0" and "Fallen Trees - Platinum Edition", "The Trees" and "Cygnus X-1" are missing major amounts of each. There are also a couple of minor cuts in "By-Tor And The Snow Dog" and "Working Man". I would like to be able to say which version is the better of the 2, but this one is a judgement call. The "Platinum Edition" is crisper and brighter, yet "Version 2.0" is heavier, although not as crisp or bright for the Bass. My personal choice is "Platinum Edition".

CD1, track 11, "Circumstances", 00:11, some of the song is missing, but there isn't a gap. CD2, track 4, "2112 (Spliced)", 4:46, some of the song is missing, but there isn't a gap. (Master)

Sad, because this show might have received a much higher rating, but it sounds like the taper placed the microphone(s) under their jacket. It probably deserves a G, except the instruments are rather clear, considering that the microphone(s) are tucked away. There is top end clipping. I would recommend playing at a low volume. The song "Hemispheres" has a splice spot where the tape must have been flipped, and a few minutes later a couple of minutes are missing.

The first couple of minutes are rough due to tape munch. VG is for the times when it sounds its best. There are several songs that have tape drag for a couple of minutes at a time. CD1, track 8, from 14:54 - 17:27, the volume in the right channel drops to nearly nothing. This happens again on CD2 for the first few seconds, and once more from 00:54 - 1:52, during "In The Mood".

If you have "Black Forest", you pretty much already have this version. The reason for this version, and creating it for yourself is simple. There were 2 sources used, with one of them being for 2 filler tracks in order that "Black Forest" would be a complete show, song wise. But since some do not care for fillers, this version was created. What you would need to do is rip tracks 1-4, 6, 8 & 9 off of CD1. Then what I did was to rename the tracks 1-7, and burn the shortened CD. Now you have the "(Short Setlist)" version. There is a different back insert for this version that has the shortened track list.

CD2, track 8, "Drum Solo", there is some kind of scratchy sound I cannot describe, and a small amount is missing. I have this show as an original, so these problems do exist. This show does have something we only heard from one other date, and that is Geddy asking the crowd to move back. There is a bonus advert for the 3-21-80 show.

Track 3 sounds like it might be from a different show. The quality drops as well. These shows have a done live that night pre-release version of "Limelight", with Geddy having different vocal characteristics, and fluctuations. "Tom Sawyer" is another pre-release live song, and is definitely a different sounding version. Geddy ad-libed some of the words as if they hadn't been fully worked out at this point. Alex's lead is also not fully worked out, yet is a killer one. Sadly, "Hyperspace" is missing "The Spirit Of The Radio". The audience is really dead, but the band played with great enthusiasm. "Hyperspace" is definitely better in sound quality, plus the speed has been slightly corrected.

This show was recorded too high, with the worst spot for this on CD1, track 10. The taper dropped the microphone(s) a few seconds after track 2, on CD1 starts. I would give this show a high EX-, and even though all 4 of these shows are rated the same, this version is the best one!!!

It isn't as bad as normal tape munch though. The intro to "YYZ" is missing. This is the best version of this date, and is a high VG+.

Between this version and "Anaheim 81 - The Definitive Edition", I cannot tell any difference. The track times for CD1 for both versions are identical to the second. The total time difference is only 11 frames, which is about 13% of a second shorter is all. CD2 for this version does have a few tracks with different times, and is 11 seconds shorter. As for which version is best, I cannot say. Since the non Remastered version is better known throughout the trading community, I would recommend getting it instead of this one.

The times for each CD for "No Title (Reversed Sound)" and "Live In Stuttgart 1981." are within 30 seconds of each other. "Live In Stuttgart 1981." is 12 minutes shorter than "No Title", but with much better sound quality, and IMO, is the best sounding version.

Track 14, which is "Red Barchetta" is cut short by less than a minute.

"The L.A. Kid" is thought to be from 2-18, but after comparing each show, I have discovered this to be incorrect. Geddy and the crowd are identical at all spots, track after track. The problem is which of the 2 nights are these 3 titles from. I believe them to be 2-17, and here is why. Two of Geddy's inbetween comments would be semi difficult to remember word for word. (1) "Thank you...thank you. Good evening Los Angeles and surrounding area or wherever you may be from. How ya' doing tonight...okay? It's nice to be back here for a couple of days eh, at the Forum to play for you folks and ahh if you don't mind we've got a lot of things to play for you tonight. If it's okay, we'd like to do something from 'Permanent Waves' right now, this is 'Freewill' ". (2) Right after "Digital Man", Geddy says "Thank you, he don't need no bed, yep...That's what he said". "The L.A. Kid" has a spot near the end of CD1, track 8, "Closer To The Heart" where it has been edited slightly by fading it out, then snapping back in. "The L.A. Kid" has a crisper sound and is my choice for best version.

Track 10, CD1, there is an edit at 1:30, where some music is missing, but no gap. CD2, track 3, at 1:24, has what may be a quick recovery from the microphone(s) being dropped. CD2, track 6, "Xanadu", is cut really short at 1:58. Some of CD2, track 7, is also cut short at 3:17. There is a bonus track with an interview of Neil Peart by "Tom Russel" on 5-24-83, that is 25:32 long.

This is the first half of the 9-22-83 show from "Tom Sawyer" through "In The Mood". The proof of date is when Geddy announces the night at the beginning of track 2. He says: "Good evening New York City and surrounding area if that's where you're from. Whatta ya say this evening. You okay out there or what? It's nice to be here, again for our whatever row in a night, night in a row here at Radio City Music Hall. We've got ahh...we've been here so long you know. Ahh, we've got a bunch of things we'd like to do tonight from our older records and of course _______ albums. Ok...ahh we'd like to proceed with something from 'Signals', this is called 'Digital Man' ". This confusion from Geddy is rare, and is the exact same thing he says on "Contents Under Pressure". Obviously there are many versions of this date that are much better, but none are as complete. This version is about twice as long as any of the others. Sadly though, my rating is an average. There are times when if it wasn't for being recorded too high in the bass frequencies, because the bass in the arena was very heavy this night, this show could have received a VG+. However, because of the recording level, there are also times it deserves a VG-. There are a couple of spots where the left channel cuts out briefly. Even though this show isn't anywhere as good in quality of the other versions above, in a way I recommend it because this version doesn't sound at all like the same night, even though it is.

As you can see, I have 3 versions of this date. All 3 versions have 2 pre release live tracks. They are "The Big Money" and "Middletown Dreams". At this point Geddy announces "The Big Money" as probably going to be on the next record. The top version is from a so-so tape, and wasn't put through as to be a production release. The other version was sourced from an MP3, and has a bonus interview by "Chris Tetley" from the officially/unofficially released CD called "Interviews Volume 2 Geddy Lee". Normally I would NEVER offer a show that was mastered from an MP3, but this is from a very rare tour. The best version of this date is "Live In Lakeland 1985" below. I ask that if and when you do trade this show, that you point out the things I have mentioned about the non production version and/or the other being MP3 sourced!

The comments above are the same for this version, except this one is from a 1st gen tape. It does suffer from being recorded too high for the low frequencies, as do the other 2 versions. We get a sound like when you talk into a fan on high speed. The rest of the instruments are fine including Geddy's Bass. This is another tough show to rate. This version is a low VG+, but if it wasn't for the low frequency problem, this show could easily receive an EX-. It could even receive a VG depending upon how much the fuzzy sound bothers you. Even though I didn't mention this before, for the beginning of "Middletown Dreams", Alex's guitar part is different but not too drastic. Same goes for Geddy's Bass part at the end of "The Big Money". The best version of this date is this one.

There are a few spots where the music cuts out for under a second. CD2, track 1, at 1:10, there is a quick skip forward in the song of a few seconds is all. CD2, track 5 at 3:32, there is an odd sound that my guess is tape stretch. Since this is from the Master CD-R's, these very minor problems are suppose to be here.

This CD is suppose to be outtakes, but I truly believe that someone attempted to make a home made karioke CD. The reason is because the instruments come thru great, where as Geddy's vocals come thru distant a good chunk of the time and beautifully only some of the time. Tracks 1-7 are from "Power Windows". Tracks 8 & 9 are from "Moving Pictures". Tracks 10 & 11 are live in the USA in 1976. The last 2 tracks are rumored to be a straight copy off of "All The World's A Stage". I haven't checked it out for myself yet.

I VERY rarely use reviews by others, but in this case, I feel it is important. These reviews I grabbed from DRE, and do not know the people in order to contact them to get their permission to use either of these.

"Although I do not own the exact CD of these purported out takes, I have a tape copy. You too can make you own out-takes of any artist just like this prankster did! Simply slide the RCA phono plugs out of your CD player until just the center tip conductors touch. You will get a healthy 100Hz buzz but what you will be left with is the mono tracks from the mix. Anything that was panned left or right is lost. Filter out the hum with an EQ and there you go, demo's! Some systems which have built in karaoke microphone systems can also reproduce the same effect without the buzz (my Panasonic mini-system does this) It's an interesting listen but it's not real."

Any signal that is centered is cancelled out - or removed. That includes bass, kick and snare, and lead vocals. It's also known as a vocal eliminator. It's worth the time to get a new perspective."

This show plays a little fast and was recorded too high. Because of this the sound, what we get is fuzzy and compressed. CD1, track 6, 00:23, there is a major skip forward in the music. Shortly after CD1, track 13, "The Trees" starts, there is a skip forward in the music. A handful of tracks are cut short. CD2, track 5, I don't think needs to be here, but that is the way I got it. The extra track is only about a minute long, and is cheering only, where as the next song should have started when this track started as far as I can tell without editing out this track, and splicing the tracks before and after it together.

CD1, track 9, from 00:15 - 00:19, the volume is messed with, and increases a decent bit. Then from 1:03 - 1:05, the music is faded out and back in. CD1, track 12, at 3:04, there is a quick zap/skip noise that lasts for a fraction of a second. The power goes out at 4:10, on CD1, track 12, "Marathon". They play this song from the beginning once power is restored. CD2, track 2, "Mystic Rhythms", at 4:44, there is a radical sound quality change in which the low end is now being recorded way too high. My guess is that a switch was hit. This ends on track 3, at 6:50. The power goes out one more time during CD2, track 3, "Distant Early Warning", at 5:58, but this time they don't replay the song. There are spots mostly toward the end of the show where the microphone(s) either are blocked, or the recording volume on the audio cassette recorder is turned down.

This version of this date is the best one. There is occasional phasing, but it's not bad, nor does it last long. CD1, track 11, "Marathon", is the first of 2 times a song is cut short due to a power failure. This time the song happens to be very close to the end. The booing of the distant crowd actually make it sound like there was a keyboard phasing out the song. They play this song from the beginning once power is restored. CD2, track 4, "Mystic Rhythms", is cut short due to the second power failure. This time it ends closer to the middle, but they don't replay the song.

My copy seems to have been retracked and reindexed if I go by the inserts. But if I go by the fact that everything fits perfectly with no click at track change, then the track list on the back insert is incorrect. The last 2 tracks from CD1 on the inserts are the first 2 tracks on the CD2 I have. I did a test burn and found that the possibly rearranged songs do blend and flow perfectly right thru to the next track as if it was originally mastered this way.

The date on the inserts are incorrect. They say 2-25-88. On this CD, Geddy says "Thank you very much....Goodnight" and right after that the beginning of the next track starts by means of editing out the audience cheering to bring the boys back out for an encore. Where as with the show "Extreme Exult" from 2-25-88, Geddy says "Thank you, thank you very much....Goodnight" and leaves the stage awaiting the call back out for the encore. Upon further checking I have found that this was taken from the show called "A Desperate Voice". This version is better though.

As with nearly all bootleg releases, there are flaws. For these shows there are sounds every so often throughout all of the 17CD's. The sound is like when the needle on a turntable runs over a tiny spec of dust in the groove of an LP. From what I understand this is considered diginoise. Most of the time these sounds aren't going to be heard by most people, but my ears are extra sensative is why I hear them. None of the times do they interfere with the quality or desireability of this release. These sounds exist in the Master SHN Files. The amount of clicks per show varies from a couple of shows having almost none to a couple having a decent bit of them. I would say that out of all of the shows, CD1, track 10, from "4-21-88 Kingdom Of Fire (Chapter 2)", has the worst spot with the first 40 seconds having several of these clicks. I will break up the set if you would like.

The last 3 shows are from an 8CD set. All 3 shows are AD, and I rate the 3-23-90 show VG-, and the 3-24 & 26-90 shows VG. CD1 starts off rough, and has a couple of tracks where the microphones are blocked and unblocked repeatedly for long stretches, but not for the entire song. CD2, track 8, is cut a little short. CD3 has an advert for the Vancouver concert, as well as Radio Vancouver, and a soundcheck from Vancouver. CD8 has "Radio Portland: Interview with Alex Lifeson", "Radio Seattle: Interview with Neil Peart", and a soundcheck from Seattle. CD4 has a skipping type of noise toward the end of track 9 that ends at the beginning of track 10. I will break up the set if you would like. I created all 3 FLAC versions.
