If Bon Scott was more up front in the mix, this show would have gotten an EX. The intro to this release has a 1:16 guitar only section, that as a guess is from a soundcheck. The bonus part fades out and the actual concert starts on the same track. This same track has digital clicking for the first 45 seconds. I am not sure if it was mastered this was or not. Sadly the digital clicks reappear at the end of CD1, track 2 and into about 30 seconds of track 3. The rest of the tracks are fine. This show was nearly 18 months before Bon Scott died.

To be honest, I didn't listen to Bob Welch or Dave Mason, so for those 2 groups only, I cannot swear to an accurate rating and if any problems exist. However, I did scan through them to see if their part of this 6CD release was consistant with the rest of it, and it was.

CD2, track 1, "Heaven And Hell" at 8:44, the previous few seconds are started over on the CD and not by the band. CD2, track 3, at 00:16, there is CD freezing like the CD Player was having trouble tracking. If you fast forward to about 4:30 this goes away. Same CD, track 4 at 00:54, tracking problems occur again, and then digital clicking, then more track freezing problems. I stopped listening to the show at this point with 3 more tracks totaling about 22 1/2 minutes to go.

This was the last show of the tour with DIO, which also happens to be the last show he did with them until he rejoined them in 1992. The 2 bonus tracks are alternate takes or Demos from the Mob Rules Demo Sessions. They are "Falling Off The Edge Of The World" which I rate SB EX-. The other is "Over And Over Again", and I rate it SB EX-. If Ronnie's vocals hadn't been low in the mix, this last track would have gotten an EX.

This is a hard show to rate as far as if it is AD, SB, or FM. The "Black Sabbath Live Project" web site says this is AD & FM, but this is from one source. I doubt it is an SB recording, because Ronnie says what I would consider a bleepable word for the radio. This sounds to me like an AD recording when it comes to stereo seperation, but the audience is a liitle too quite. I think this may be an SB recording where the microphones were placed in front of the speakers, but not recorded in stereo or it was a direct feed from the soundboard in mono into 2 channels. There was some scratchy, low volmed nearly digital clicking on CD2 for maybe 15 seconds.

Like with "Accident In Brasil", if someone where to disagree with my rating and give it an EX, they wouldn't get any kind of an argument from me.The first 45 seconds or so of track 4 has an odd skipping sound. This happens again on the same track from around 4:45 to 5:00. At the beginning of track 7 medium volumed skipping occurs for a few seconds and again for a few seconds about 30 later, but this time it is very low volumed and again only lasts for a few seconds. Track 8 has the same low volumed sound, but this time it continues throughout the entire song. The low volumed sounds I feel are a bad connection. Track 12, "Laughing In The Hiding Bush" is cut short. There isn't very much difference between these two versions. "Accident In Brasil" is 1:45 longer, but what makes it longer I don't know. The track seperation is better for "Accident In Brazil" when it comes to the change from 1 - 2. For "Accident In Brasil" the bass is heavier. For "Accident In Brazil" it is crisper. Everything else IMHO is at or near identicle. My choice would be for "Accident In Brasil" even if it didn't have all of the sounds.

This show was on an LP at some point. There is a sound heard throughout that I cannot get a hold on in order to describe. The best I think I can get is it sounds like the LP was really dirty and probably skipped alot, so they put a little extra weight on the tone arm in order to compensate. Luckily the LP is flat, but it sounds like the styli is digging in a little too much creating a scratchy high frequency extra crisp sound. Then again, it may have been that the microphones couldn't handle the high frequencies and/or was recorded to high with them. If it wasn't for these problems this show would have gotten an EX-, and could have pushed getting an EX.

This show has a few obscure songs and is a low EX-. There are a few spots that sound like there was a short in a connection havening to do with the recorder or microphone(s). Although this noise is noticeable, none of the times it happens is it obtrusive nor do they last long. Starting around 3:00 on track 8 there is some kind of static that lasts for about 45 seconds. There are 2 bonus tracks. The first one is "Dream On" done by DIO and I rate it SB EX- because in this situation it has too much fuzz on everything indicating somewhere in the process it was recorded and or transferred too high. The second song is a live version of the song DIO did for the benefit CD from heavy metal bands. The song is called "Stars" and I rate it SB VG. This last track may have gotten a low VG+ from me, but there is a buzzing sound in the right channel that occurs on and off, but mostly on for the entire song. I only have a Front insert for this show.

Unknown The Soundhouse Tapes...and other rarities

All of the tracks are SB EX barely. Tracks 1-3 were taken from the legendary release called "The Soundhouse Tapes". These are the very first recordings of Iron Maiden. This CD features three of the original four songs from the Spaceward demo tape, which was recorded in one 24-hour session on 12-31-78. The fourth song of the set, 'Strange ..." was recorded on 11-9-79. Tracks 4-9 were taken from the very rare Japanese release called "Live + One". This show was recorded the day after "Maiden Japan". This version is the same quality as "The Big Heat" below, except there is one more song at the end that is from this show, and in the order it was played that night. There are a few seconds more of the intro to the show. The track indexing in my opinion is better here. The introduction to the songs on this version are at the beginning instead of at the end of the previous song. "The Big Heat" has 2 tracks combined into one that should have been seperated, although that to me isn't very important. The comments below are the same for this version, except the bad spots will appear at slightly different times and/or track number. The length of the bad spots ect. is the same.

Paul Dianno on vocals. This show has really good stereo seperation. I am tempted to call this an FM recording, because during track 12, the drum solo, from 3:28 to 3:40, and again on the same track at the end from 6:25 to 6:54 where Paul Dianno introduces the next song ect., there is what I would say is weak radio reception in the right channel. This happens again later during all of the last 2 tracks, 14 and 15. This time it is through both channels and sounds more like phasing with fuzz, which from my past experience is that of weak radio reception, and gives a sound like it had been recorded at an outdoor veune. These 2 tracks aren't as bad as the 12 seconds it occured for track 12, but I would have to rate just these 2 tracks VG to VG+. Even though the last 2 tracks have a problem, this is still a show worth getting.

There are 13 tracks total. Once the time hits almost 6 minutes into track 8, "Fear Of The Dark", it gets a G rating. A minute or so into track 9, I just scanned the rest as it got even worse. These are the worst sounding tracks I have in my entire collection with the possible exception of one Ozzy Osborne show.

Plus in a few spots the music cuts out very briefly. CD1, track 6 at 6:48 a whistle sound occurs until 8:45, then starts again at 8:55 to 9:26 which is the end of the song and continues into track 7 at 00:02. Then again on track 7 from 1:04 to 1:23. CD3 has alot of sound and probable source changes. These shows are from the first two nights of the tour.

If it weren't for Jimmy's leads being low in the mix, it would get an EX- rating.

CD1 has a couple of spots where there are milisecond gaps during the songs. CD2 has several of these gaps and some up to 2 seconds long during track 5, between approximately 10:00 and 11:30. As of 4-11-04 I have a good copy of CD2 on the way. As of 6-1-04 I have what should be a good copy of CD2, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.
