11-15-78          Tour Of The Hemispheres

2CD X AD EX-

There is some skipping at the end of track 4 on CD1. On CD2, tracks 6-9 are from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and I rate them AD VG+.

I must say Mike did a very fine job on the splicing of the shows. It is nice to hear a complete show without even a quick tape flip.

If the Bass were more upfront in the mix, this show would have received an EX.

2CD X SB EX-

11-20-78  A Desert Passage

2CD SB EX-

As with all but one of the versions of this date, the complete show was not available. This version does not have any of the missing parts filled in however.

11-20-78     Every Soul A Battlefield

2CD SB EX-

I hope you are sitting down because we finally have a COMPLETE show from this night!!! Don't let the EX- rating fool you, this show just misses receiveing an EX!

11-20-78            A Desert Passage - Platinum Edition

2CD SB EX

This version of this date, like most of the others, contains fill in parts. In this case there are 2 SB bonus tracks from an unknown date placed at the end. I wasn't listening really hard for the fill in part transitions, but the one spot I did notice besides the 2 bonus tracks was on CD1, track 10, "Hemispheres", between 10:00 & 11:10. My copy during the intro has a couple of double clicks right before 00:30, and another couple of single clicks around 00:40, in which one is a minor skip.

11-20-78  Brainwaves

2CD X SB EX

This version may be a direct copy from "A Desert Passage - Platinum Edition", except it has been EQ'd some, but I cannot tell any real difference.

      Cobo Hall, Detroit, Michigan
12-2-78                    Buenos Nochas! Motor City

2CD SB CD1/VG-, CD2/EX

12-2-78 Oak Oppression

2CD X SB CD1/VG-, CD2/EX

Both of these versions have tape fluctuation for just over half the show, making it extremely difficult to listen to. The problem continues up until the 16 minute mark on "Cygnus X-1, Book II, Hemispheres". After that the sound does improve to EX. The "Oak Oppression" version however does have 2 spots which are not on "Buenos Nochas! Motor City", and those would be, CD1, a 3 second area of silence right after track change, but not a 2 second gap. CD2, there is a spot at the track change of 4 & 5 that is just weird, but way less than a second long. I would get "Buenos Nochas! Motor City" myself.

2CD AD EX-

12-16-78 Fallen Trees - Platinum Edition

2CD AD EX-

For "Fallen Trees - Version 2.0" and "Fallen Trees - Platinum Edition", "The Trees" and "Cygnus X-1" are missing major amounts of each. There are also a couple of minor cuts in "By-Tor And The Snow Dog" and "Working Man". I would like to be able to say which version is the better of the 2, but this one is a judgement call. The "Platinum Edition" is crisper and brighter, yet "Version 2.0" is heavier, although not as crisp or bright for the Bass. My personal choice is "Platinum Edition".

Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
12-29-78           Welcome Back Home

2CD (SHN) X AD EX-

In audio CD format, this is a 2CD show. This show was recorded too high. There are a few rough spots with a couple of easily tolerable thuds and a tick or two, but nothing to distract from the quality or likeability of this show.

      Music Hall, Boston, Massachusetts
1-11-79                          Boston '79   (16bit)   (Dan Lampinski)

2CD (FLAC) (UI) AD EX

In audio CD format, this is a 2CD show. CD1, track 5, "Xanadu", 10:55, which is around 2 minutes from the end of the song, the power cuts out. CD1, track 5, 11:15 to track 6, "Something For Nothing", 00:08, the volume in the right channel is greatly reduced. CD1, track 11, "Circumstances", 00:11, some of the song is missing, but there isn't a gap. CD2, track 4, "2112 (Spliced)", 4:46, some of the song is missing, but there isn't a gap. (Master)

2CD AD VG+

2-3-79               Dedication - Platinum Edition

2CD AD VG+

CD2, track 4, "2112 Suite", has part of it missing due to a possible tape flip. Even though I have both versions rated the same, the "Platinum Edition" does get the edge in better quality.

      Hollywood Sportatorium, Hollywood, Florida
3-10-79           Held Hostage In Hollywood

2CD AD EX-

CD1, track 6, there is an edit about 1 minute into "The Trees", with only a small amount missing. CD1, track 8, "Cygnus X-1 Book II, Hemispheres", has an edit spot at 17:35, but not very much is missing. CD2, track 4, at 5:43, "The Temples Of Syrinx", has about 1 minute missing. CD2, track 4, "2112", has an edit.

3-10-79     Secret Show

2CD X (UI) AD EX-

This show is a straight copy from the Master tapes to CD-R without any mixing. My copy of this show is from the CD-R's that "Digital Reproductions" used to produce "Held Hostage In Hollywood", which is also the better of the 2 versions. There is a small edit on "2112".

4-4-79            Turn The Pages Of History

2CD AD VG

      City Hall, Newcastle, England
4-24-79      Belt Up And Listen

3CD X AD VG-

The 3rd CD is a radio Interview with Geddy done in Newcastle, England. At least half of the show is muddy due to what sounds like the microphone(s) were being blocked. I will break up the set if you would like.

      Glasgow Apollo, Glasgow, Scotland
4-25-79               Glasgow Master Copy

2CD (SHN) (UI) AD VG-

In audio CD format, this is a 2CD show. This show was recorded too high, thus we get a scratchy buzzing sound.

      Manchester Apollo, Manchester, England
4-30-79             Armed With Sense And Liberty

2CD AD VG+

The inserts say 4-6-79, but the actual date is what I have. On my speakers this show sounds as if it was recorded too high, for which I would rate it VG-, but through my headphones this is rarely present, and it deserves my VG+.

      Liverpool Empire, Liverpool, England
5-2-79    Secret Empire

2CD AD VG+

      Hammersmith Odeon (Hammy-O), London/Hammersmith, England
5-4-79    London `79

2CD X AD VG-

Sad, because this show might have received a much higher rating, but it sounds like the taper placed the microphone(s) under their jacket. It probably deserves a G rating, except the instruments are rather clear, considering that the microphone(s) are tucked away. There is top end clipping. I would recommend playing at a low volume. The song "Hemispheres" has a splice spot where the tape must have been flipped, and a few minutes later a couple of minutes are missing.

      Hammersmith Odeon (Hammy-O), London/Hammersmith, England
5-5-79       Instant Attraction

2CD AD VG+

      Hammersmith Odeon (Hammy-O), London/Hammersmith, England
5-7-79         Hammersmith `79

3CD X AD VG-

The volume starts off low, but after 25 seconds it does go to normal. CD1, track 6, has about 4 minutes where the sound quality gets worse. This to the point where it barely deserves a VG-. CD1, track 5, has a couple of minutes missing. CD3 is a Backstage Radio Interview. I will break up the set if you would like.

5-7-79   London Fog

2CD AD VG

The first couple of minutes are rough due to tape munch. VG is for the times when it sounds its best. There are several songs that have tape drag for a couple of minutes at a time. CD1, track 8, from 14:54 - 17:27, the right channel drops to nearly nothing. This happens again on CD2 for the first few seconds, and once more from 00:54 - 1:52, during "In The Mood".

Wembley Arena, London/Wembley, England & Colston Hall, Bristol, England
9-9-04 & 5-14-79  12 Years Later

3CD X AD EX- & VG+

During the 9-9-04 show, the section where Alex does his rant, the band breaks out into a rare short full blown quality sounding improve song without lyrics. This title contains 4 bonus tracks from the encore part of 5-14-79, that I rate AD VG+. The first minute of track 12 is rough, as if the source tape had been munched.

      Nr. Kortrijt, Poperinge-Maekeblijde, Belgium
5-18-79     Belgium 1979

1CD (UI) AD VG

There are 11 quick zap type of noises on this CD. Not being sure of this titles origin, I can only guess that these should be here.

5-24-79                      A Passage To Oslo - Platinum Edition   RTA Edition

2CD X NI AD EX-

The "RTA Edition" is the better choice! For a comment about what "RTA" is, how it was used here, and even a link to a picture of an "RTA Machine", please click
HERE . CD1, at the track change between 2 & 3, there is what sounds like radio bleed over.

Grona Lund (Green Grove), Stockholm/Djurgarden Island, Sweden
5-25-79    Tivoli Gardens

2CD X AD VG-

5-25-79            Shortened Stockholm

1CD (FLAC) AD VG+

In audio CD format, this is a 1CD show. This show is a high VG+. Several songs are incomplete. Track 6, 17:34, the microphone(s) are blocked until 17:52. It sounds to me like they fell down inside a shirt or jacket. Track 7, "Closer To The Heart", is from a bootleg release called "Tivoli Gardens", except it has had Gain Control, Pitch Correction and some EQing applied.

5-28-79  Black Forest

2CD SB EX

This show has been spliced together from 2 seperate performances. Luckily both are SB. Most of it does come from 5-28-79. It was spliced in 2 places is all, and they did a great job of doing it.

5-28-79        Black Forest (Short Setlist)

2CD SB EX

If you have "Black Forest", you pretty much already have this version. The reason for this version, and creating it for yourself is simple. There were 2 sources used, with one of them being for 2 filler tracks in order that "Black Forest" would be a complete show, song wise. But since some do not care for fillers, this version was created. What you would need to do is rip tracks 1-4, 6, 8 & 9 off of CD1. Then what I did was to rename the tracks 1-7, and burn the shortened CD. Now you have the "(Short Setlist)" version. There is a different back insert for this version that has the shortened track list.

5-28-79      Farewell To Frankfult

2CD X SB EX

I know that nearly everyone has this show listed as "Frankfurt", and they would be correct except that is just the name of the city. The name on the inserts is as I have it. Track 8 on CD1 has clicking noises from approximately 17:50 thru 19:30.

6-4-79 Praying For The Light

1CD X SB EX

6-4-79                  Live At Pinkpop   (Paradiddle)

1CD (SHN) SB EX+

In audio CD format, this is a 1CD show. These shows are from the final night of the tour. This version of this date has the speed corrected. There are 3 bonus tracks. One is somewhere live. The next two are studio tracks. The first being "Not Fade Away", and the second is by "Max Webster" with Geddy called "Battle Scar". "Live At Pinkpop" is the best version of this date IMO.
